Statewide Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf Services

As an increasing number of children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing enter their neighborhood schools, it is clear that careful planning and preparation positively impact their school experiences. Experience in working with the DHH community is critical to developing an appropriate and individualized education program for deaf and hard of hearing students, their families, and teachers.

All of Listen and Talk’s Itinerant Teachers of the Deaf are WA state certified. Our team provides expertise for students and schools through itinerant services, including but not limited to 1:1 direct services with students, IEP development, IEP reviews, classroom observations, auditory and language assessment, in-services, professional support, and ongoing monitoring and support of students placed in neighborhood schools. Audiology services can also be provided by one of our Educational Audiologists, if needed.

Districts serving children who are DHH in any (public or private) educational setting can request statewide itinerant support from our amazing Listen and Talk team. For more information, contact our Outreach Coordinator, Rebecca Tumbarello: rebeccat@listenandtalk.org

Here are some examples of services provided:

SDI: 1:1 direct (in-person) services with students, ranging from once a week to once a month, depending on student needs. An IEP goal is written and monitored by the Teacher of the Deaf.

RS: These are also direct services with students in support of other IEP goals, not written by a Teacher of the Deaf.

SAS: This service is usually a staff consult, in support of our students to provide accommodation suggestions and guidance to staff.
