Employee Spotlight: Aimee Perrault
Where are you from?
Seattle since 1991, born and raised in Yakima (I’ve also lived in Los Angeles and Boston)
Why did you decide to work for Listen and Talk?
In 2008 Listen & Talk was looking for preschool age hearing peers. A friend of a friend referred me here since I lived in the neighborhood, had a 3 year old kid, and I had a background in the Deaf community. Listen & Talk was so warm and welcoming, I knew instantly that it would be a good fit for my son, and later my second son. They each attended preschool back-to-back from 2008-2013. While they were here I volunteered as much as possible helping with all of the events and Family Voices (parent group). During my younger son’s last year here I was hired as a substitute educational assistant. When my son graduated and moved onto Kindergarten, I wasn’t ready to leave. So in 2014 I was hired here full time as an Educational Assistant and have been here ever since. Now I work as an Administrative Assistant for the Birth to Three team.
What do you love most about your work?
The kids are great — I watch them in the Family Room before school and it makes my day when they walk in and tell me what’s going on in their lives. Their faces light up like this is the biggest news of the day! I hear stories that range from “I have pizza in my lunch!” to “I have crazy news — I’m going to Hawaii!” We should all be as excited about our lives as they are!
What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy traveling, reading, running, meditation, podcasts, and spending time with my family and friends.
If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?
I would be an owl — they can see and hear all, which would come in handy raising two boys.
